The Food and Drug Administration regulates many aspects of healthcare
in the United States such as approval for new medications and medical
devices. However, when you are considering plastic surgery, the FDA is
of little assistance. Here are some things that the FDA does not regulate:
-
The FDA does not regulate a doctor’s practice such as limiting
what he can tell patients or interfere in how he runs his business.
-
The FDA has no authority to set price limitations on what individual
surgeons can charge for the procedures offered at their clinics or practices.
-
The FDA cannot insist that patient information be provided to any
or all potential patients.
-
The FDA does not make recommendations for individual clinics or liposuction
centers.
-
The FDA does not maintain or have access to any list of doctors who
offer and perform liposuction surgeries.
-
The FDA will not recommend a physician to any individual.
-
The FDA does not conduct or provide a rating system for the medical
devices that it approves and regulates.
